Golden Boy is a hardworking and enthusiastic overachiever. He learned early on that his accomplishments can earn him the attention, accolades, and love that he craves, so he’s constantly striving to be the best at everything. In the series, Golden Boy: Life Stages of a Striver, we see our protagonist grow up and grow old, demonstrating his skills and expertise at school, at work, and even on the pickle ball court. We can only hope that all of his hard work amounts to some sense of satisfaction as he reflects in his golden years.
Like all of the characters in my work, Golden Boy is a kind of alter-ego, representing a particular aspect of my personality that I want to explore and understand better. My need for affirmation and attention is not something I’m proud of, but I am very curious about where it comes from and how I might get it under control. I find that developing characters and illustrating them in various scenarios is a fun and safe way to gain perspective and insight as I continue to grow and change throughout my life.
